EARLY CHILDHOOD
North Stonington Public Preschool
North Stonington Public Preschool is an integrated early childhood special education program designed to support young children with disabilities in an inclusive learning environment. As part of this model, the program also includes community peers who learn and grow alongside their classmates through play, exploration, and daily classroom activities.
Our integrated preschool provides meaningful opportunities for all children to develop communication, social, academic, and school readiness skills while learning from one another in a nurturing and supportive environment.
The program follows the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.

Program Information
AM Session: 8:30 a.m.–11:15 a.m.
PM Session: 12:10 p.m.–3:10 p.m.
Transportation is not provided for community peer students.
Community Peer Lottery (2027–2028 School Year)
Enrollment for community peer openings is conducted through a lottery process. Students receiving special education services are placed through the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process; available community peer openings are filled through the annual lottery.

Lottery Registration Closes: April 19, 2027
Lottery Drawing: May 7, 2027
Family Notification: May 7, 2027
The entire preschool team will conduct the lottery on May 7, 2027. Families will be notified by email that same day if their child:

Has been offered a community peer placement, or
-
Has been placed on the waitlist.

Families placed on the waitlist will also receive their waitlist number to assist with planning.

Developmental History & Child Find Screening
As part of North Stonington Public Schools' ongoing Child Find responsibilities, all children registered for the Community Peer Lottery will be invited to participate in a developmental screening.
Families are strongly encouraged to complete the Pre-K Developmental History Form before their child's screening. This information helps our preschool team better understand each child's development, interests, strengths, and needs.
After the Developmental History Form is submitted, a member of the preschool team will contact families to schedule a developmental screening.

If you have concerns about your child's development, communication, learning, behavior, or motor skills, you do not need to wait for the lottery process. Please contact the Special Services Office to discuss your concerns and learn more about available supports and evaluation options.
